I wanted to go to Angkor Wat in Cambodia for so long. Finally, I made it! I learned so much history this day. I listened to stories about the legendary kings and marveled at the ancient temples. The stonework and carvings were really impressive. I tried to understand and convey the symbolism behind the artwork and sculpture. I acknowledged both the Hindu and Buddhist elements of the architecture and design. The Khmer civilization and Angkor cities must have been so amazing at the height of their power. I was mesmerized by the portraits of dancing apsara spirits and shrines of Vishnu or the Buddha. After walking the Angkor Wat complex, I visited Ta Prohm. Ta Prohm’s famous statue “The Perfection of Wisdom” was modeled after Khmer King Jayavarman VII’s mother. The temple had a mysterious atmosphere and was quite photogenic as the jungle sprawled over the ruins. Finally, I visited the Banteay Srei temple which was distinct in its construction and use of red sandstone. The temple was famous for its intricate wall carvings, dedication to Shiva, and association with female divinity. Check out more of my videos to tour the sites and learn about the history. Thanks for watching.
