Welcome to Palermo, the capital of Sicily, and one of my favorite destinations on this trip. Walking around the city there were so many historical attractions, ancient buildings, and dramatic coastlines to explore. Markets were bustling and the streets and piazzas were filled with people enjoying food and live music. You have to stop and see these sites – the Palermo Cathedral, Palazzo dei Normanni, San Giovanni degli Eremiti, Monte Pellegrino, the food markets of Ballaro, Cap, and Vucciria. I was staying by the Teattro Massimo and enjoyed watching all the passersby between the buildings surrounding the Piazza Giuseppe Verdi. I didn’t get to see an Italian opera, though I’ll save that for next time. There’s also the Fontana Pretoria, which is majestic as well as all the architecture you’ll come across in the Quattro Canti or Borgo Vecchio. If you have time you can even go to the Mondello beach. Make sure to try Palermo cuisine and street food. I had some friends show me around fun spots and got to eat some of the best – arancina, pane con la milza, frittola, stigghiola, pezzi di rosticceria – the list goes on. Hope you enjoyed this one.
